Cleavage baring necklines are not the only way to do sexy. Bollywood divas have proven that from the humble Chinese collar to full-fledged Victorian high necks, red carpet affairs are now going beyond deep peeps. Taking cue from Sonam and Kareena Kapoor, who paired high-neck blouses with their saris at recent events, the trend seems hot right now.

Designer Anju Modi, who last year, showcased a couture collection which saw a lot of high necklines, says,“If you want to show off skin, there are a lot of ways to do it rather than going the cleavage way.

Sonam and Deepika have long, beautiful necks which they highlight with closed necklines, flaunting the rest of their body with off shoulder or a one-shoulder look. The Victorian-influenced high-neck style brings together the ethnic flavour with western sensibilities.”

Designer Nikhil Thampi adds, “A bare back is best complemented with high necks to strike a balance between sexy and sophisticated.”

Be careful before you get on to shopping for these, though. “The look is not for everyone. Someone like Deepika can sport it because she has a toned torso that she can flaunt. It’s not really the perfect style for a curvy Indian body type,” says designer Anupama Dayal.
