celebrities don’t take long to get influenced by the latest that Hollywood is wearing. The hottest new trend seems to be that of sporting fedoras.
It began when everyone, from Jessica Simpson to Gwyneth Paltrow to Nicole Richie and Ashlee Simpson were spotted wearing the spunky headgear at various public outings.
Soon after, Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Preity Zinta too were seen following the style. B-town has been familiar with this style statement, but until now the code was limited to the big screen. Now, whether it’s at a cricket match, a quick trip for a promotional event or a sudden rush to the airport, the fedora is indeed coming out of the reel closet.
“The fedora, just like a pair of blue jeans, can never go out of style. You can wear it with a cool tee, a suit or even with a summery day dress. It’s the best definition of a truly unisex style,” says Zubair Kirmani, designer.
The resurgence of the fedora on the Indian fashion street can also be credited to the ’60s-inspired style wave sweeping all over.
“With TV shows like
, the ’60s are back in demand. The Fedora is the iconic symbol of this genre of fashion. Plus, now you can actually buy good quality fedora hats in India, though hopefully more brands and designers will get in on this trend,” says actor Ash Chandler who’s famous for his collection of the fedora.
“There’s no doubt that vintage style is in big time. But not everyone can carry it off, so the next best thing is to wear accessories like Fedora hats. It’s a great way to get the sleek ’60s look without actually going the whole hog with cinched skirt.”
