International artists Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys and Shakira; players from 32 nations; and a stadium packed with tens of thousands. As the FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, with a star-studded inauguration ceremony, all eyes will be on South Africa.
Promising to set the stage on fire, Black Eyed Peas lead singer, style icon Fergie has opted to wear an outfit created by Indian designers Falguni & Shane Peacock. The dress — a body suit with black and multicoloured cut outs and armoured shoulders with exaggerated padding — looks futuristic with a touch of African style.
Talking to HT City, Falguni Peacock says she’s super-excited. “Fergie’s stylist saw our collection at the London Fashion Week and was very interested. When Fergie saw the designs, she loved them. We got a final approval from her a few days ago,” she said.
At the moment the designers are burning the midnight oil as the outfit has to be flown out to South Africa on Tuesday. “We kept in mind her 12-minute performance. There’s a belt with 3D embellishing that she will wear when she walks out on the stage, but she’ll fling it off dramatically before she starts singing. It is sexy and edgy, and we added a South African feel.”
Asked how much the dress is worth, Falguni says, “We had an open-ended budget as this is a great opportunity for us. It’s the World Cup, and the whole world will be watching, we’re thrilled.”
