Finally, a grand finale

Designers Pankaj and Nidhi blew the crowd away as the curtains dropped on LFW.

Standing ovations are hard to come by in the world of fashion. Which is why the rousing applause as Pankaj and Nidhi took to the ramp was so poignant. The couple proved that a combination of talent and technique is far more deserving of a fashion week finale than even seniority or an entourage of celebrity friends.

As models came out, each dressed in a garment more intricate than the previous one, front row regulars stretched closer to understand the craftsmanship that went into creating the spectacle. The show began over an hour late, but as the audience filed out, many said, “We’d gladly watch it all over again.”

Pretty in peplum
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, you’ve obviously been hiding under a rock. Every designer worth their salt has incoporated the frill-attached-to-the-waist detail into their collections, designed to give women hourglass figures. Case in point, Nupur Kanoi’s lace suit.

Reverse gear
Nishka Lulla is usually associated with baby doll clothes and bright colours. That’s why this remarkably restrained showing, with clothes given an inside-out finish, impressed everybody. Perfect for a Sunday brunch or even casual Fridays at work.

Sheer elegance
The Sailex show rolled out one old Hollywood ensemble after another. This sheer mermaid gown, worn with a bodysuit underneath, is certainly one of our favourites. Now which Bollywood diva will be bold enough to be wear it is anybody’s guess.
