All eyes are set on United States (US) President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama — the most important guests India is currently playing host to. Everyone is bound to talk about Mrs Obama’s flawless style statement. The US First lady, with her impeccable dressing and an ability to mix high street with couture fashion, has given the style savvy the much-needed dose of fashion democracy. Designer Alpana of Azara says, “Mrs Obama’s style is interesting — she makes fashion look so effortless and approachable. You see her in a J Crew cardigan or a high street shift dress, things that every stylish woman can aspire for.”

The First lady is also celebrated in style circles for some of the trends that she has re-introduced. From her kitten heels to her shift dresses, everything that she has worn, has become a rage. We get the experts to talk about some of the top trends that Michelle has brought back to the fashion scene.

Trend:
Shift dresses

Expert speak: "Michelle Obama has started

the trend of bright and cheerful shift dresses. Even the floral prints are a big hit. They look great on her and she carries them off very smartly. Understated and simple shift dress looks way better than the embellished dresses," says designer Falguni Peacock.

Get the look: A big day bag looks very good with shift dresses. Also, keep the jewellery minimal; diamond earrings or ring will look great.

Grab that waist
Trend: Waist cinch belt
Expert speak: Designer Anupamaa Dayal says, “Cinch belts are back, thanks to Michelle Obama. People think belts were only for the size zero. But it’s not true. Belts give you a defined and flattering look. They look very classy and feminine.”

Get the look: Those who’re skinny, should opt for narrow belts. Curvier ones should pick up medium-sized belts. Team up the belt in grey or black with a bright shift dress.

That’s a statement now!
Trend:
Statement neckpieces
Expert speak: Designer Urvashi Kaur says, “Statement neckpiece is a rage now. Michelle carries them off really well. They look classy and are very eye-catchy. Various mix of stones, metal chains, flower motifs and appliques are used in such necklaces.”

Get the look: Keep the dress simple and let the neckpiece grab the attention. A high hairdo looks great with shift dresses, low cut gowns and one-shoulder dresses, teamed up with the chunky neckpiece.

Heel the world
Trend: Kitten heels
Expert speak: “Michelle Obama is very often seen in the more practical kitten heels instead of the fashionistas’ essential high heels. With her fashion sense, Michelle reiterates the fact that to look good, you don’t necessarily need to follow the fashion diktats.

Get the look: Kitten heels can be worn with fitted or skinny jeans, short dresses, bolero and boyfriend jackets. Don’t forget to carry a big bag with you to get the overall look.

Bob Is Back With A Bang
Trend: Beautiful bobs

Expert speak: “Michelle Obama has brought the trend of bobs back. She looks stunning in them. The dresses and one-shoulder gowns she wears, go very well with her hairstyle,” says make-up and hair expert Angelina Joseph.

Get the look: Bobs look great on those with an oval face. Bobs and A-shaped dresses look very nice, as they make you look slim and tall.
