The recently concluded Met Gala 2012 in New York saw celebrities experiment with lots of bling, bold, gothic, futuristic and feminine style.
The sparkling trend has got a new lease of life. Celebrities such as model Karolina Kurkova, actors Carey Mulligan, Jessica Alba and Cameron Diaz were dressed in bling dresses from top to toe. “Bling is here to stay,” says fashion designer Gaurav Gupta. “It looks best when worn in a sophisticated manner and Karolina has achieved the right look with her custom-made Rachel Zoe dress,” he adds.
Go minimal with your accessories and makeup when wearing a bling dress.
Gothic goes sexy
Who said gothic can’t be sexy? Take your cues from celebs sporting gothic style on the red carpet. While model Gisele Bundchen rocked it with her clean goth look in a Givenchy gown, actor Cate Blanchett’s stylish gothic look in an Alexander McQueen dress too got a thumbs-up. Fashion designer Gaurav Gupta says, “Goth is definitely big this season.”
When sporting a gothic-style dress, keep your hair slicked back. You can also experiment with darker lips.

Fashion stylist Aakanksha Jain says, “Rihanna nailed the look by keeping her makeup minimal and experimenting with
While wearing a bold dress, always wear minimal accessories.
Classy and sophisticated are in. The feminine look is a big hit, and a dress with subtle sheen in light metallic shades is a great way to make it perfect. “Actor Gwyneth Paltrow looks elegant in her flirty satin Prada minidress,” says fashion stylist Aakanksha Jain.
Opt for lighter shades in dresses that have a slight sheen.
What were these women thinking?
It’s never difficult to spot bizarre fashion at the red carpet. While, R&B singer Beyonce Knowles failed to impress with her sheer embellished and feather gown by Givenchy, Polish model Anja Rubik’s slinky silk dress by Anthony Vaccarello, not only revealed her right hip bone but also that she didn’t wear an underwear. It was far more daring than actor Angelina Jolie’s thigh-high split at the Oscars this year. Fashion designer Rina Dhaka says, “Such events are all about jaw-dropping dresses. Bizarre celeb costumes spell shock-or-awe value.”
