Actor Freida Pinto, 26 seems to have made all the right fashion moves at Monday night’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala benefit in New York City. Pinto wore an edgy Chanel Couture gown from the label’s spring 2010 collection. But interestingly, along with the shirt collar full length dress with draped shoulders, she wore a black satin tie.
"It’s great to see her take fashion risks," says designer Anupama Dayal. She adds, "Freida’s exotic looks mixed with the very European style of the dress is a good combination." "Freida is very with it as this is an internationally hot trend to team up a necktie with a gown. Unlike how actors dress in our country, she seems to have understood how to be a part of today’s world," says designer Hemant Sagar.
Pinto, who will next be seen in Rise of the Planet of the Apes co-starring James Franco, has also got international fashion blogs abuzz.
"Considering how boring and safe most of the evening’s looks were, I found this to be a refreshing risk," posted a blogger on redcarpet-fashionawards.com.
However, she has her share of critics too. "She has the figure for it, but the hair is spoiling the effect. The makeup is too strong for the look," says fashion editor Varun Rana.
