Front row gets cerebral twist

If the past few editions of fashion weeks in India were all about Bollywood presence in the front row, this season is all about lawyers, doctors, authors and academicians.

If the past few editions of fashion weeks in India were all about Bollywood presence in the front row, this season is all about lawyers, doctors, authors and academicians.

Most designers showcasing at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week S/S 2012 at Pragati Maidan, which concludes on October 12, are ensuring that their front row has an intellectual guest lineup.

Designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna have decided to skip the customary star presence at the grand finale show and invited artist Subodh Gupta and his sculptor wife Bharti Kher to be in the front row. “Fashion week attendees are not just page 3 people but people from all walks of life who have a refined taste for fashion. Our guest list also includes publisher Chiki Sarkar and artist Arpita Singh,” says Gandhi.

Designers Dev and Nil have invited Priti and Priya Paul of the Apeejay Surrendra group. “We’ve also invited politico Pranab Mukherjee’s dancer daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee as she reflects intelligent style”, says Dev.

Nida Mahmood’s show today will see author William Dalrymple, criminal lawyers Sidharth and Ketaki Luthra, and SC attorney Shwetasree Majumder in the front row.

Designer Anand Bhushan says, “This is an international practice and we’re happy to be adopting it. My guest list includes senior lawyers like Atul Sharma.”

Designer Anita Dongre’s guests include noted Mumbai-based doctors Rashmi Shetty and Falguni Shah. Designer Ankita Chaudhry will see academicians from NIFT and artist Asif Patnaik sitting in the front row at her show.
