The opening day of the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 kicked off with the Gen Next show, where six young designers made their debut. Every season, this show serves as a platform to showcase upcoming talent, and several of its participants have gone on to become established names in the field. This time, the designers were mentored by Anita Dongre, who will also be showcasing her new collection later in the week.

Models display outfits by debutante designers.

Arguably the stand-out performer was Ujjawal Dubey with his label, Antar Agni. Most people in the audience picked him as the one to watch out for, because of the raw, rugged-yet-easy-going vibe his outfits exuded. Our favourites were the cotton and chambray dhotis, paired with kurtas, jackets and turbans.

Others who impressed were Parul Bhargava, with her label Mirage; and Chandni Mohan with Selvage, where the first few garments that hit the ramp were her strongest creations. The show also marked the debut of Divya Sheth, Sreejith Jevan and Vilvin Sabu.
