Is your vanity case cluttered with cosmetics way past their expiry date? Now, you can clear that mess and go green at the same time. This World Environment Day, we tell you how to safely dispose off and re-use your beauty buys. Cosmetics may contain toxins that are harmful to the environment. So, either opt for brands that accept their old products back for recycling or stash your cosmetics together in a jar and dispose them separately in the trash.Lipsticks
When you get to the bottom of your lipstick, scoop out what’s left with a small knife, heat it and melt it in a large spoon. Pour it in a container, refrigerate it and re-use! The expired ones can be used as markers or paint in craft projects. You can also opt for eco-friendly brands that accept their old lipsticks to recycle.
Got a run in your stocking and no time to stitch it? Just dab clear nail polish on it. And, if you don’t want to lose a button ever in your life, just dab the centre of each shirt button with a coat of nail polish! You can also fix scratches on the wall or furniture by applying a coat of nail polish. If you can’t find the exact right shade, just mix in a bit of white or another colour.
Lost love for your broken glitter eyeshadow? Just mix it with glue and get glitter glue! You can use this to decorate your craft projects, cards for your loved ones and more. You can also add coloured eyeshadow powder to clear nailpolish and mix it well to get a nail enamel in your favourite shade.
Mascara & liners
Revive your dried up mascara by soaking the stick in a cup of hot water. Before disposing your empty mascara bottle, wash the wand with hot water till it is clean. Now, you can use it as an eyebrow comb or to apply highlights in your hair or even to clean your jewellery! You can also use brush of an expired liquid eyeliner to make nail art. Liners can also be used to make fun tattoos or art!
Are you working on an oil pastel painting or have an artist friend? Use the expired hairsprays as a fixing spray on the masterpieces to prevent chalk and oil pastels from smudging. Depending on the size of your hairspray can, you can use the cap as a container to hold seeds and water for birds. Make sure you wash the cap thoroughly before putting it out for your avian friends.
