The second Aamby Valley India Bridal Week kicked off in Mumbai on Friday with showings of high-end festive garments by Vikram Phadnis, Rocky S and Anjali and Arjun Kapoor. This also marked the beginning of fashion weeks for this year's Ford Supermodel of The World Contest India winner Ninja Singh and sub-contest winner Nitya Duella.
Anjali and Arjun Kapoor's creations for the season were traditional yet contemporarily done garments for the modern bride while the designer couple decided to make their men look more traditional. Menswear had strategic placements of embroidery while the girls looked pretty in their more elaborately done garments with embroidery, big stones on the surface and more variety of colours.
Rocky S, who came next, started with serene whites with tone-on-tone embroidery and made his brides look more angelic in their appearance. He offered his men more of a tux look with interesting dinner jackets and notch collars. He also sprinkled a fair number of cocktail dresses apt for pre-wedding functions. Vikram Phadnis chose to stick to the more traditional look and made his brides walk in styles that signified the Indianness of his creations. Extensive embroidery and an interesting colour palette added to the overall beauty of his collections.
A good lineup of models coupled with show direction by Marc Robinson and Lubna Adams and a mirror-laden backdrop interspersed with golden grills and a runway stretching across the water bodies, made the event unique and grand.
