If grandeur and theatrics are all about finale, then all those and more were there at the end of the Lakme Fashion Week this season when designer duo Gauri & Nainika unveiled their collection ‘Fantasy’. Larger than life dresses and gowns, impeccably made in the company of pulsating music by Gaurav Raina, a stunning set made by Sumant Jaikrishnan and two LA girls walking tall on the runway on steel rods wearing the designers’ creations made this finale one of the most dramatic ones at LFW.
In the other shows during the day, Lina Tipnis had an interesting collection in western silhouettes including some prints, sculpted sleeves and embroidery in necklace forms on dresses that made them dressier. Her collection was well made and the presentation well executed.
I saw improved collections from Abdul Halder and Abhishek Dutta. Both the designers presented western lines that seemed nice and wearable this time. Same was the case with VJB by Vijay Balhara. This model-turned-fashion designer also presented some nicely made garments as opposed to his collection in the previous season.
Young designers Atithi Gupta and Harangad Singh had a few nicely made garments in their western wear lines in both, muted as well as brighter hues. However, they could do with an all-perfect collection next time. Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan was more controlled this time and had a ‘girlie’ feel to the whole collection with a few pieces looking really pretty. And those who came looking for prints (what the brand is well known for) at the Satya Paul showing had to go home after watching heavily embroidered collection, with a few appearing in rather rich formats.
