Designers Varun Bahl and Karan Johar on an elephant, Rohit and Abhishek on horses and Arjun Khanna on a Harley Davidson. Sounds far fetched? This is what’s to come at the Van Heusen India Men’s Week in the city, to be held from September 2-4. The organisers, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), have decided to have have a wild opening for the fashion gala this time around.
This will also be the first formal opening ceremony to a fashion week across the world. Slated to be held at the porch of the venue, The Grand, the ceremony will see all the participating designers riding on a mode of conveyance of their choice, and letting their hair down before the show really begins. “The idea behind having an opening ceremony was to introduce all the designers and show them as a unified lot even amid all the competition”, says FDCI chief Sunil Sethi.
Designers are upbeat about the addition in the format. Grand finale designers Karan Johar and Varun Bahl are planning to make it as grand as possible. “Last I heard from them, they were in Masai Mara, arranging a herd of elephants for their opening act”, says Sethi.
“I will be driving in an Audi convertible along with my daughter Ankita. It will be fun to zip around”, says designer Anjana Bhargava. “I have a fondness for bikes and I will come riding a Bullet. It’s like reliving college”, says designer Zubair Kirmani.
