Aishwarya Rai Bachchan managed to dress to keep her baby bump a secret. And while you may have to retire those Herve Leger bandage dresses, being pregnant doesn’t mean the end of your fashion parade.

According to designer Asmita Marwah, a kalidar tunic will keep your bump under wraps. “It starts flowing outwards from the top, rather than from the waist, hence drawing attention away from the stomach area,” she says, adding, “I wouldn’t recommend anarkalis as those are more fitted around the waist and can make you look bulky.”

Aneeth Arora, whose label Pero is popular among moms-to-be, says, “For an evening out, a tent dress that flairs out from the shoulders can be worn with a short fitted shrug. The look is stylish and comfortable for the wearer.”

Marwah also votes for roomy kaftans during pregnancy. “They are loose and easy to wear, but buy them in light fabrics to avoid looking bulky.” She points out that pregnant women need breathable fabrics, saying, “If you don’t mind showing off your bump, then jersey falls well and can be worn in a variety of styles.”

Shoemaker Ateev Anand of AKA Bespoke advises a Cuban or block heel for women who can’t let go of their stilettos. “I wouldn’t advise a heel that’s higher than two inches though,” he says, adding, “Remember that your feet swell quite a bit during the pregnancy, so it’s important not to wear tight, high shoes. Even kitten heels look dressy for the evening and are popular now.”

If you’re looking for flats for daywear, he recommends choosing ballerina flats over gladiator sandals. “Sandals have buckles and you’ll need to bend over to strap them up. Ballerinas are an all-time favourite and look chic.”
