You must take care of your lips in this harsh season.

1 Exfoliate well: Use a toothbrush to exfoliate your lips. It will remove the dead cells and promote growth of new ones. Apply petroleum jelly to soften the abrasion caused by brushing on the lips.

2 Keep them hydrated: Always use a lip balm to get rid of chapped and dehydrated lips. Use them at least 2-3 times a day. A lip balm with an SPF 15 or higher is essential to protect them from sun tanning and harmful UV rays. If you sleep in an AC room at night, don’t forget to apply either a lip balm or petroleum jelly on your lips to prevent chapping.

3 Balanced diet: Drink at least eight glasses of water daily to keep your lips hydrated. This also helps to plump up the lips. Avoid caffeine and smoking and try to eating a healthy diet as it affects the colour of your lips. Also include salads and fruits like watermelon which are rich in water content.

4 Moisture magic: When applying lipstick, don’t forget to moisturise your lips. Follow it with an application of a good quality concealer. These days lipsticks, with a moisturising effect, are available in the market so use them to keep your lips hydrated and prevent chapping.

5 Safe makeup: Be careful when choosing a brand of lip colour, lip liners and lip glosses. In case you notice changes with your natural lip colour, stop its usage immediately and consult a doctor.
