1 To dye or highlight:
If you have a strong hair base tone then it’s best for you not to go in for highlights. However, if you have a dull base colour, go for highlights. But always get them done professionally.
2 Types of highlights to choose:
There are basically four types of hair highlights. Basic foil highlights, baliage or hair painting, chunking or piecing and lowlighting. This is why you need to consult a stylist before you go in for any.
3 Maintain it:
Post the highlights/colour, use a colour enhancing shampoo and conditioner, at least once a week. They work because they deposit a minimum amount of colour in the hair.
4 Tackle root growth:
Post the first session expect your hair roots to start to show in about 6-8 weeks. This is when you need to go in for a slight touch-up. You could even do it on your own, but only if you’ve found the exact same colour.
5 Gray wars:
Strands of gray hair can be resistant to colour because of the coarse texture they have. In case you’ve got just about or less than 15 percent gray, then it’s best to opt for a semi-permanent color that’s a shade lighter than what your natural hair colour is.
