Here's how to take care of your silver:
Prepare: Dust the silver pieces well before you start polishing them as any residual dust can turn abrasive upon applying the polish. After removing the dust, wash in warm water and a mild soap. Don’t soak silver in water for long. Rinse out the soap well, dry with a lint-free cloth.
Polish: Use a good quality polish. Apply polish in gentle circular motion with a sponge or a soft cotton cloth. Cover the entire surface with polish, using cotton-tipped swab for intricate areas. Rub off with a soft fabric until the silver is sparkling and all polish is off.
Foil: Take a container large enough to hold the silver that has to be cleaned, fill with hot water and place an aluminium foil inside along with baking soda. Leave until you see the tarnish clearing up.
Protect from humidity and dust: If there are open drains or construction sites near the house, keep your silverware in a closed shelf. There could be sulphur in the atmosphere that damages the shine quickly.
No salt: Wash your cutlery or other pieces that are in contact with salt immediately after use, as it corrodes it.
