A new wardrobe, a swanky car, a sleek phone and a jaw line like Kareena Kapoor — this summer, Delhi teens have a new set of priorities and looking like their favourite star before colleges re-open is number one on that list. Cosmetic surgeons say the numbers of teenagers coming to them has doubled this summer, with most demanding specific features such as Aishwarya Rai’s nose, Katrina Kaif’s lips and Kareena Kapoor’s jaw line.
Explaining the rising numbers during the vacation, Dr Dr Vimal Malik of Eleganza Skin Clinic says, “May and June have been the heaviest for corrective surgery for the past five years, but this year, I am getting more queries — at least two every day from teens and those in their early 20s, who feel they can heal at home for two months and show off a “new me” when colleges reopen.”
“80-90 per cent youngsters looking for a nose job want a nose like Ash. Many come with pictures of Kareena and ask for a sculpted jaw line like hers. Angelina Jolie’s pout remains a favourite. They also bring pictures of Jennifer Aniston in a ball gown and want their boobs to look the same. There are 15-20 such cases a month, and they have doubled in the last year alone,” says Dr Rashmi Taneja, senior cosmetic surgeon, Artemis Health Institute.
She adds, “These surgeries are not cheap. In fact a jaw line surgery with specifications like Kareena’s would take implants and would cost Rs 75,000.” “They come with photographs of stars. Boys want a face like Hrithik Roshan and male cleavage like Akshay Kumar. Girls want an overall face like Katrina, particularly the lips.
They also ask for Deepika Padukone’s dimples. 80 per cent of these queries come from 18-20 year olds. Surgery on people so young is a no-no in plastic surgery, and they have to be counseled that it’s not possible,” says Dr Anup Dhir, Senior Cosmetic surgeon, Apollo Hospital.
