Among the many trends that have surfaced in 2017 on Instagram, the face mask seems to be slowly climbing to the top of everyone’s social feed. It all started with Matcha and DIY Agar Masks, and, the trend has now spawned a whole new breed of masks that are making the internet go crazy.
From Charcoal Masks that are equally popular among men and women, to the Bubble Mask which makes your face look like a cloud, here are five of the most popular face mask trends on Instagram right now.
When everything seems to be laden with charcoal, why not include the magic ingredient in beauty too? The Charcoal Mask first appeared online a few months back and has now become a common beauty trend on Instagram. Known to give you a glow (thanks to the activated charcoal it has) and also deep clean your pores, this mask is only for those who do not mind going through a little pain to look fabulous. Why is it painful, you ask? Well, the mask attaches itself to the outer layer of the skin, creating a suction that deep cleans the pores, pulling out every white head, impurity, and hair in the area where the mask is applied.
Catering to every skin type, this mask is one of the latest beauty trends to go viral. With ingredients that include green-tea extract, collagen, and charcoal powder, this one is easy to apply and take off (unlike the charcoal variant) and literally grows on your face. The bubbles are caused when the grey-ish carbonated mask’s ingredients react with oxygen, and are said to clean black heads, leaving your skin bright and super clean.
24K GOLD MASK
Nothing says fancy like a 24K Gold Mask. Yes, you heard it right! You’d be applying real 24K gold on your face and then washing it down the drain. Is this luxurious mask worth it? Users say that it slows down the collagen depletion, increases your skin’s elasticity, lightens your complexion, stimulates the cells, improves blood circulation and even prevents premature ageing, wrinkles, and tanning.
This aluminium foil like face mask is actually a great way of hydrating your face after a long day’s work. The mask, which is also used by celebs like singer-designer Victoria Beckham, hydrates your skin, locks in the moisture, keeps you skin firm and helps lighten your skin tone. Unlike other hydrating masks that lock moisture, this one is non-acnegenic (which makes it even better). Only problem? You end up looking like a picnic lunch whilst wearing it.
You can apply this mask like any other, but it is taking it off that is the fun part. This creamy and thick mask contains iron-based powder that, once applied and kept for 5 -10 minutes, can be simply sucked off your skin using a magnet. Yep, no water required at all, and you get to watch the negative charge particle just jump off your skin.
