Before you go gaga over a look you saw a socialite sporting with pride, know this, there’s a good chance the look is ‘rented’. From luxury bags and designer clothes to swanky cars, socialites from the page 3 circuit are showing off stuff at parties that may not belong to them.

, which rents out luxury bags of brands such as Dolce and Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Gucci, has revealed that many socialites have taken bags on rent for recent parties. “The demand during the festive season is high. On an average, we cater to 8-10 clients a day, out of which at least 3 are known socialites,” says Cookie Singh, the site’s co-owner. Singh claims that her clients include models, socialites and magazine editors, who she can’t name for obvious reasons.

Luxury cars such as Mercedes and BMWs are also being rented out to flaunt at hotel foyers where page 3 photographers hang out. “Clients hire luxury cars to show off at much publicised parties,” says Amrit Mann of Mann tourist services. The ride comes anywhere between Rs 6,000-12,000 for 8 hours.

A socialite, who does not wish to be named, admits, “For us, it’s important to have a matching bag with the dress every time, which we can’t repeat. It’s stupid to spend lakhs on these bags, so I don’t mind renting one for a party.”

Not everyone, however, endorses the trend. “I’m not comfortable renting gear for a party, but if someone is, then why not? Why just bags, I get calls from designers for renting dresses too,” says model Ramneek Pantal.
