It’s a short story

Celebs are flaunting them already. It’s time you get that perfect pair of shorts and show some leg this summer.

The best way to beat the typical Mumbai summer is to dress in a way that will help you combat its cruelty. If you want to take a cue from our celebs, showing some leg in your favourite pair of hot pants should do the trick. Both Shilpa Saklani and Shweta Keswani showed up at a film premiere wearing shorts.

While they seemed at ease, strutting around in the multiplex, in their comfortable pair, both of them donned entirely different ‘looks’. While Saklani seems to have chosen to play ‘matching-matching’, with a yellow polo neck top, yellow-armed glasses, a glistening belt, clutch and mojris, Keswani stuck to a more suave black ganji and shorts look.

Designer Krishna Mehta says that shorts in neutral shades are the best bet. “They will go with a top of any colour. So, stick to olive, khakhi, black, navy or beige tones. But if you go for yellow or purple coloured shorts then you can offset it with a neutral shaded top,” says Mehta.

Mehta says that shorts in solid colours look the best, but if one were to go for printed alternatives, “then pick shorts with bold prints. Tiny prints will make shorts look like pyjamas,” Mehta reckons.Wardrobe consultant and fashion designer Varsha Bhawnani, of Vinegar asserts that shorts offer endless possibilities for creating new looks.

“You can pair them with a blouse with puffed sleeves or ruffles tucked in for the day or you can wear a high waist belt over the blouse, depending on your mood,” says Bhawnani. A tucked in shirt, says Bhawnani, with a belt will make for a smart look and for a night out, pair your ensemble with killer heels. “And I would suggest very little jewellery,” adds Bhawnani.
