A jacket or a blazer instantly reminds of an accompanying accessory for a suit.. to be worn at a formal gathering. But hey, the jacket is a lot more than just a piece of garment to flaunt at formal occasions.

Designer Ritu Kumar, known for teaming long jackets with saris, says, “Shawls are cumbersome. A jacket is a stylish alternative.. just right for corporate dos and society parties. Silk jackets suit the winter in Mumbai which isn’t too cold or warm.”

Internationally, designers like Valentino and Marc Jacobs have dressed models in dresses with blazers thrown over. Carolina Herrera created an ‘elegant evening look’ in which she decked a model in a white flowing gown.. and had a black blazer hung over her shoulders.

Fashion houses DKNY and Lanvin created looks where a blazer is loosely buttoned over a ganji and a pair of shorts. Another look had a long jacket teamed with a short dress. “I’m glad these international looks are being adapted here too,” asserts Kumar.. who still recommends silk jackets paired with churidars and denims.
