An unequivocal complain we hear fashion-forward Indian women make is that they don’t get quality lingerie and night wear in India. That they always have to shop for it while travelling abroad, or order online. And with online shopping, they can’t try it on and be sure it’s the right fit. Especially the lacy stuff, which needs high quality material and sophisticated craftsmanship to translate into stunning wearables.
“Lacy lingerie has always been hot but the trend is at its zenith in 2014-15. Light and ethereal lacy inners is a sign of luxury that enhances sex appeal and exalts feminine curves. While black lace signifies timeless grace and elegance, the idea this season is to experiment with colours. Pay attention to turquoise, purple and blue,” says Deeksha Dadu, co-founder, Straps and Strings, adding that pastel shades of coral, yellow and green are going to rule spring-summer 2015.
However, the key to shopping lace lingerie is that it should be exquisite and ultra refined. It must not be just any lace as cheap, bad quality lace makes the pieces vulgar, instead of seductive and subtle. Technique and fits are crucially important as well, as the lace should perfectly embrace feminine form. A lacy bra looks best when it’s not padded, with its show-some-hide-some effect in sheer/semi-sheer texture.
Till sometime back, one didn’t have many options when it came to good lingerie brands, but things seem to be changing now. And we all know when it comes to lacy indulgences, nothing beats French. Now, options abound for those on the look out for superior quality innerwear. If you are looking for French couture, Agaline, a French couture intimatewear start-up founded by Caroline Joire and Agathe de la Chapelle from France, will offer just that. Their idea was to create a line of products which would be a mélange of their French roots and oriental inspirations. “We created comfortable yet sophisticated intimatewear, custom-made for Indian body and skin tones,” says Joire.
The lace they use, Dentelle, is a five century-old tradition and comes from different regions: some from close to Lyon and some others from the renowned region of Calais. “Many have tried to replicate this traditional french lace, but the true elegance, beauty and strength of Dentelle can’t be matched. Its quality is unparallel. Now, we give it to beautiful Indian women!” says Chapelle.
No doubt, lace elements add a touch of femininity and sensuality. “We incorporate lace in all things lingerie — from nightwear to bras. In fact, our recent lacy racerback bras are a customer favourite now,” says Richa Kar, CEO, Zivame. With the sort of exquisite styles, fits and designs in lacy lingerie that are surfacing, it is a guilty pleasure that every woman can unabashedly indulge in this season!
