Lakme Fashion Week: Feeling inspired

Sunday is considered a day of rest. Apparently, that applies to fashion weeks too, as day three saw a significant drop in the number of visitors at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week.

Sunday is considered a day of rest. Apparently, that applies to fashion weeks too, as day three saw a significant drop in the number of visitors at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week. Celebrities too, were few and far between, with only the finale drawing a significant crowd. At Anita Dongre’s show, computer graphics were used to conjure up virtual couches and sofas on the ramp, forcing the models to act surprised. Clearly, not their strong suit.

Bouffant dresses
Anita Dongre stuck to the Mad Men-inspired silhouette that’s kept her in good stead for the past few seasons. Nipped at the waist and billowing around the hips, the ’50s style works for almost any body shape. Add delicious-looking candy colours and delicate embroidery and you have another hit on your hands.

Mini sari
Sabyasachi experimented with the chota sari a few years ago, and Deepika Govind makes a play to bring the trend back. Offering some respite from the blazing summer heat, this version also offers you a chance to show off those toned calf muscles instead of hiding them under six yards of fabric.

Gingham sundresses
Soumitro used the classic ‘Dorothy in Oz’ print in lehengas and sundresses, topping it with soft cotton shirts and fragrant gajras in the models’ hair.
