Bored of solid lip colours? How about sporting some saucy lip art? The latest fad that’s caught the fancy of the ‘it’ babes is lip art and stick-on lip tattoos. Lip art patterns such as polka dots, zebra, leopard prints, and stick-on radium lip tattoos can pep up your pout instantly.

A US brand, Violent Lips, recently launched temporary lip tattoos in animal prints. Actor Phoebe Price and singers Lauren Bennett and Keyshia Cole too, have been spotted sporting lip tattoos. In last year’s December issue of Harper Bazaar, the cover had Katy Perry wearing red swarovski crystals on lips.

LipsIf you thought such lip art and tattoos are only a fad overseas, that’s not the case. They are a hit in the Capital too, with salons offering temporary lip tattoo service. And you need not be a frenzied rock star to pull off the look. It is wearable for everyone, provided you choose the right design, say stylists.

“Lip tattoos create a bold and wacky look, a sure shot way to stand out in a party,” says make-up artist Aashmeen Munjal. These waterproof designs that take about 30 minutes to make, are sealed by spraying a lip fixer. Make up artist Vidya Tikari says, “It’s a hip look. It’s sexy and a good way to look different and creative. It’s a cool statement for young girls.” Designs on your lips, the design varies with the occasion, your personality and shape of your lips,” says Rawat.

While the bolder animal prints work for a night out with your gang, softer designs such as polka dots, hearts, stars and flowers look nice for the day time. Also, with tattoos on your lips, your make-up must be understated unless it’s Halloween. “Don’t match the colour of your outfit with your lips. Instead, go for shades that work well with your skin tone,” says Munjal.
