Met Gala 2016 pictures: The good, the okay, the horrifying

While this year’s theme- Fashion in an Age of Technology- held a lot of promise, we were disappointed with most of the outfits worn. We narrow down the five outfits that were clearly the worst of the Met Gala. And the five best looks too.

Claire Danes not only struck the perfect balance between fashion and technology, but also used technology to enhance her fashion. In a stunning baby-blue gown designed by Zac Posen, Danes elicited gasps of delight as the night went on to reveal that her outfit was more than just a fancy ball gown- it glowed!

Each year, the world’s biggest celebrities glam up to attend the much awaited Met Gala. While this year’s theme- Fashion in an Age of Technology- held a lot of promise, we were disappointed with most of the outfits worn.

Some celebrities stood out in a good way (we’ll get to that later), but most of the outfits worn, didn’t impress (Kim Kardashian, we’re looking at you!). Some looks were too edgy (Taylor Swift’s punk look just wasn’t working for us), and some were alarmingly resemblant of tapestry (Tabitha Simmons might want to have a chat with her designer).

First up, we narrow down the five outfits that were clearly the worst of the Met Gala:

1 Katy Perry

With purple eyeshadow and bleached eyebrows, Katy Perry looked like a parlor appointment gone wrong. No one understood how a house as prestigious as Prada could create a dress that was clearly the outcome of scavenging for spare parts. While the Tamagochi she carried with her was adorable, her outfit was not!

2 Solange Knowles

We are yet to understand the concept behind creating this piece. In what seems to be the rather appalling use of chiffon and pleather, Solange Knowles’ outfit displays the origami skills of her stylist really well. Rumor has it that this outfit is a (not so) subtle message to Jay Z following her sister’s new song release, “Lemonade”, but we’re sure that there are better ways to communicate than this!

3 Demi Lovato

We appreciate Demi’s recent body-acceptance snap and must say that her figure looked amazing. However, the silver sequined yellow and black Moschino gown didn’t quite do it for her. With the yellow borders bearing an odd resemblance to icing on a cake, DLov disappointed us. Maybe next time...

4 Madonna

The 57-year-old is infamous for her inappropriate clothing and behavior at public gatherings, and this time, she lived up to her expectations. In a very revealing outfit that only be loosely described as a dress, the Queen of Pop flashed a lot more than what we needed to see. After seeing her black ensemble, we’re sure that the leather and lace could be put to better use!

5 Lady Gaga

Known for her eccentric fashion sense, we’re not surprised that Lady Gaga makes it on the list. Wearing a shimmery cutout leotard with fishnet stockings instead of pants and a sparkly skin-tight corset jacket, Gaga may have taken the theme a bit too far. What shocked us were her massive metallic and black heels. We weren’t really gaga over her ensemble. (Pun intended.)

Now the good part.

Some celebrities really did do justice to the importance and theme of the Met Gala and managed to stand out for the right reasons. From simplistic and elegant to extravagant and gorgeous, here are the five best looks of the Met Gala:

1 Emma Stone

Emma Stone turned heads as she donned a cream Prada ball gown with a metallic embellished belt cinched at her waist. Her fresh new brunette locks paired with intense smoky eyes completed her fierce look off. You go girl!

2 Emma Watson

Elegance with boldness has become synonymous with Emma Watson’s style. And this time, she did not disappoint. In cream and black, Watson’s outfit balanced the look of a traditional gown with a smart pantsuit in her edgy ensemble. It’s no wonder that everyone adores her!

3Elle Fanning

One of the younger celebs at last night’s affair, Elle Fanning definitely dressed to impress! Draped in a custom Thakoon Ivory duchesse silk slip gown, she kept her look minimal yet classy. Wrapped around her neck was a thin silver chain Tiffany necklace. Her subtle makeup and sophisticated high ponytail topped off her elegant look.

4 Claire Danes

Claire Danes not only struck the perfect balance between fashion and technology, but also used technology to enhance her fashion. In a stunning baby-blue gown designed by Zac Posen, Danes elicited gasps of delight as the night went on to reveal that her outfit was more than just a fancy ball gown- it glowed! Danes’ gorgeous gown lit up to reveal the gorgeous luminescence of the fabric. For combining fashion and technology in the best way, we crown her the best dressed celebrity at the Gala!

5 Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss had a Cinderella moment on the red-carpet as she transformed her off-white Brandon Maxwell high-neck cape that touched the floor into a cut out dress of the same colour with a deep-plunging neckline. All attention was on the dress as she kept the rest of her look simple by sporting a sleek bun and with red-coated lips…
