Highlight Story

Remember the sexy beige saree worn by Priyanka Chopra in her famous desi girl song in Dostana...or the bridal finery that Aishwarya Rai was decked up in, in the blockbuster Jodha Akbar?

Now you no longer need to try and explain the dress to your friendly neighbourhood tailor to copy the style. Thanks to some new websites that specialise in making near identical outfits worn by the stars in hit movies, you can just order online and flaunt the famous look.

One such site, indianhangar.com has even hired big name Bollywood designers such as Neeta Lulla to create such replicas, suited to your specifications.

“Even after a hit movie’s theatre run ends, people are still crazy about those clothes,” says Mallika Singhania, the website’s promoter.

“Clients can browse the site and select the star looks they want copied,” she says, adding that Rai’s Devdas and Jodhaa Akbar looks are the most sought after.

“I’ve also been flooded with requests for Priyanka Chopra’s Desi Girl look from Dostana. Kareena Kapoor’s kurtis from Jab We Met are very popular with NRIs.”

Instead of getting a cheap imitation, the site promises to get the original designer to recreate a customised ensemble. “A lot depends on the client’s budget,” Singhania admits. “If you can’t afford the exact replica, the designer will make adjustments to suit your pocket.”

With Neeta Lulla already on-board, designers such as Manish Malhotra and Vikram Phadnis are also considering tying up.
