Fashion they say, knows no boundaries. Going by the current trend of an exchange of designers at the fashion weeks, both in Delhi and Mumbai, it seems all the more true.
The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week that will be held from April 6-10 in the city, has a host of designers from Mumbai besides Kolkata based Sabyasachi Mukherjee who will take the finale bow. At the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week, Summer Resort wear in Mumbai starting from March 11-15, Delhi-based designer duo Gauri and Nainika will conclude the show. FDCI president Sunil Sethi says, “It’s heartening for us to have some of the most talented people who showed in Mumbai to come on board with us. I’m excited about Rahul Mishra, Kallol Dutta, Anand Bhushan, Anand Kabra, Rimzim Dadu and many others. Designers realise that it’s important not to ignore business prospects.” Designer duo Abraham and Thakore will also be showcasing for the second time in Delhi this fashion week.
It’s the work that speaks Designer Gauri Karan says, “The fashion industry is becoming very democratic.” N.Rajaram, Vice-President, Lakmé, says, “It doesn’t matter where a designer hails from. We associate with the designer that suits the theme for the season the best”. Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who has been the grand finale designer thrice at Mumbai and is also showing at the Lakme fashion week, just before his Delhi show says, “This is my first time at the Wills LIFW. I’m excited as I have a store in Delhi.”
Delhi-based designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra are giving Wills India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2011 a miss because of the timing and collection theme, “Our collection is more suited for the spring season, so the collection theme and timing is working well with Lakme, this time. Also we have two stores in Mumbai,” says designer Shantanu Mehra. Designer Neeru Kumar who is participating in the Wills Lifestyle India fashion week says, “Delhi is the fashion capital so I have chosen to be here.”
