Move over the heavy, ornate 10kg wedding lehengas. The next time a bride sings ‘meri assi kali ka lehenga’, she may just be talking about the flower buds on her wedding outfit.
From lehengas to gowns made with real flowers — the big, fat Indian wedding is undergoing a fragrant overhaul.
“There’s an elegance attached to flowers and it compliments a bride. Those willing to make their wedding outfit unique are going for outfits made of real flowers,” says designer Nikhil Thampi, who recently instagrammed his friend’s wedding lehenga made with real jasmine flowers (extreme right).
Giving into the demand, florists are also offering wedding outfits made with real flowers.
“This season, there is a big demand for real rose gowns and lehengas,” says Meeta Gutgutia, director and creative head, Ferns N Petals.
