In 2009, American-Indian Sheena Matheiken pledged to wear the same little black dress everyday for a year, differently. Titled the Uniform Project, Sheena’s experiment in creative styling caught on all over the world.
Now, an online shoe store in India is doing just that for the high-heeled women. Puerto Rico’s Sandrysabel Ortiz came up with the novel idea of dressing up stilettos. And while the amusing moniker, The Heel Condoms, is partly the reason Ortiz’ enterprise went viral and won rave reviews internationally, the idea of wearing a new shoe everyday has got many women in high spirits.
“Women love shoes. When I saw this product, I knew I had to get it to India,” says Shailen Amin of shoe store, BeStylish. com that will start selling the product from next week. The re-usable foot condom comes in two designs the condom and panty. “The condom fits stilettos ranging from two to five inches, while the panty style fits all heel types, be it thin, thick, high or low,” explains Shailen. Available in electric shades, the heel condom comes in frilly, furry, flowery designs. “We will start with about 15 designs, but we plan to make the collection grow to between 60 to 100 styles,” promises Shailen.
They will be priced between Rs 1000 to 2000. And while stylist Tania Fadte is not convinced with the shoe-stopper this season, as she says, “I haven’t seen it but it sounds silly. But why wouldn’t you buy a new pair of heels for the same price?”, others like shoe-a-holic Tripti Singla feel, “It’s a great accessory to travel with. You can take one black heel and make it any colour, according to your dress.”
