British fashion designer Sir Paul Smith will be in the Capital on April 23, and hopes to tour the city as widely as possible. Smith, who last visited Delhi a few years ago, is excited to be back. “I always enjoy visiting India, even though my trips have been short. I enjoy the vibrancy and the exotic colours and smells ... it is all very exciting,” he says.
Smith, 65, owner of the fashion line, Paul Smith, was also the creative director of the Oscar-nominated movie, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and has designed stamps for the London Olympics 2012.
The designer plans to explore Old Delhi and other city hotspots such as Hauz Khas Village and Khan Market, and his own store at DLF Emporio Mall. “I’m really looking forward to my visit. Over the years, India has managed to influence international designers who have borrowed Indian colours and embroidery for their fashion and accessory designs,” he says.
The designer, however, says his knowledge of Bollywood is not impressive. “I’m sorry to say I’m not very familiar with Bollywood movies,” he confesses.
