Michael Jackson was an inspiration to a generation of Indians. Now, fashion designers plan to feature the singer in their forthcoming collections. Be it through ensembles or special shoots, they are paying tribute to MJ through their art. Designer Rahul Mishra is working on an eco-friendly collection for the forthcoming fashion week, a certain part of inspiration for which has come from MJ’s Earth Song.
He says: “I want to make a collection which highlights how human beings have misused natural resources. The lyrics of MJ’s song so aptly describe it… What about the seas, The heavens are falling down, I can’t even breathe, What about the bleeding Earth…” He will play a clip of the song in the background score, among other titles.
Designer Nikhil Mehra of Shantanu and Nikhil confirms that he will pay tribute to MJ in his forthcoming fashion week collection. However, he refuses to divulge the specifics.
For their collection during the Blender’s Pride Tour in August, designer duo Rahul and Gunjan will present some ensembles inspired by MJ’s style. Says Rahul: “It will be like a party collection inspired by MJ’s signature style.”
There are others too who are thinking of unique ways of paying tribute. While Nitin Bal Chauhan may “do a special shoot or even dedicate a specific ensemble to MJ”, Swapnil Shinde, who showed an MJ collection two years ago, may revisit a garment or play an AV clip from the same.
