Prints, be it floral, animal, geometric or digital, are a rage this summer. But, they don't dominate the market alone. Sequins is giving stiff competition to prints, by taking style to another level with its metallic hues and tones. Here's how you can make a style statement this season.

Prints: Style personified

Simple clean lines are out. Go for prints to lift your spirit. From Katrina Kaif to Malaika Arora to Sonam Kapoor, prints have found their way into almost every celeb's wardrobe.

"Prints are very big this season. Prints in vibrant colours are in vogue. Don't go for too large prints as it should not take over your personality but enhance it. Go for prints on light, flowy fabrics," says designer Payal Jain.

Ritu Kumar on prints: "Prints are always in fashion, especially soft floral prints. Prints have a lot of character. Prints on layered garments make a style statement. Printed shirts, kurtis (both long and short), long tunics are totally in."

Siddharth Tytler says: "Prints can be very tricky, you can either go terribly wrong with it or look fabulous. Prints work beautifully for summers. However, two kinds of prints should never be mixed. Printed tops and short dresses are very chic. In long dresses, either top or bottom should have print as balance is very necessary."

What you wear is a reflection of your personality and prints have a stellar one. "Prints that Aishwarya selects are different from what Priyanka selects. Prints are personality oriented. Animal prints portray a bold personality while floral are more soft and feminine. Geometric prints reveal a modern outlook," says Payal.

"Floral and animal are good for everyday dresses while geometric is more appropriate for a party dress. It, however, depends on your personal liking and personality. You won't wear animal print just because it's in fashion," states Siddharth.

While prints never go out of style, sequins have set a new trend this season with celebs like Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra opting for it. From dresses to saris, hats to belts, tees to jeans, choices are not limited with hues ranging from silver, gold, bronze and copper.

But going wrong with sequins is most likely. Sequins can either make you look classy or trash your personality. "Sequins should not be overdone. It should accentuate your look. Never wear it from top to bottom. Madonna and Paris Hilton can carry it with style but not everyone has the confidence to get it right. There's more chance of going wrong with sequins than prints," says Payal.

Ritu Kumar emphasizes on minimal use of sequins: "Sequins is very Bollywood. Little bit of it is fine but one should not over do it as it can look gaudy."

Siddharth, disagrees with Kumar: "Use as much sequins as you want in churidars, skirts, kurtis, swimsuits, everywhere. But don't wear it during the day. Avoid using sharp metallic colours like

24 carat gold shade. Tone it down with gun metal shades. Also, use small sequins rather than big ones to look subtle and graceful."

Flow with the hot trend for this summer season and turn yourself into a style chic with intelligent use of prints and sequins!
