It’s not just Britain’s royal bride Kate Middleton, and her sister Pippa, who’re making headlines with their chic fashion sense. Fashion observers are blown away by Queen Elizabeth II, who at 85 is no less a fashion icon. Ever since the Will-Kate wedding, where the she bedazzled in a sunny yellow dress, fashionistas have been noticing the Queen’s sartorial elegance.
All her last month’s public appearances confirm that her wardrobe hues have become peppy. Designer Anjalee Kapoor says, “The good thing is that she adapts herself to current times.” Last month, at the Chelsea Flower Show in London, she wore a printed dress and a power-blue coat paired with a hairnet adorned with black bows — a style statement that might seem too bold for women of Queen’s age and stature. She matched the Irish milieu at her last month’s visit to Ireland with a rich emerald green dress. She followed up the look with an off-white dress with powder blue buttons and a hat with matching buttons. One of her most notable style statements was during US President, Barack Obama’s visit to Buckingham Palace last month. Pitted against the another power-corridor style icon Michelle Obama, the Queen surprised all with her floral dress.
However, she played down with her next outfit — an ivory gown matched with a golden bag. Designer Meera Gupta says, “Floral prints added elegance and the golden bag speaks her class.” Stylist Vikram Seth adds, “At 85, she doesn’t hesitate to experiment. That's the key.”
