Wearing make-up in this season can be a precarious affair. Which is why make-up artiste Clint Fernandes recommends you keep things as clean and neat as possible. “It’s more important to be presentable,” Fernandes says, adding, “If you’re untidy, whether you have make-up on or not, it will look horrible.”
His main tip to stay pretty is to pack away the foundation. “The biggest problem is that it begins to streak when wet,” he points out, adding, “For the day, I would recommend sticking to a basic compact which will keep the face matte and absorb any excess water.
For the night, use a concealer first over the problem areas before applying the compact.” For the eyes, Fernandes is confident that waterproof make-up will save the day. “You can really go to town with your eyes because you get good quality waterproof mascara, eyeliners and eye shadows.” To clean off the war paint, he advises, “First soak the cotton pad in a little water, and then apply the remover onto it. Then let the pad sit on the eyes for a while, so that it absorbs well before wiping it off.”
Lip-gloss gets a thumbs down from the make-up maestro, but he does advise women to use long-stay lipstick. “Use a lip balm first. This will prevent your lips from absorbing moisture from the lipstick, and causing an ugly feathering effect where the colour seeps into the ridges.”
