Shama Sikander, best known for her role as Puja in

Yeh Meri Life Hai

, has moved on in life. After her tryst with the tube, she has now taken to fashion designing and launched her own label called Saisha. Her creations include dresses and gowns in the evening wear section apart from Indo-western outfits. “I have always been interested in fashion and fine clothing. As a kid I would dress up my dolls,” says Sikander, laughing. “Saisha means the princess of life and I feel a woman deserves to be treated like one. She brings life to the planet and dons so many hats in one lifetime.”

Even though she was always interested in fashion, watching stylishly dressed women around the world was what really inspirited her. “Indian women have been blessed with beauty, but we do not take care of ourselves. I’ve travelled across the world and observed that internationally, even not-so-good-looking women look presentable. I am simple yet elegant and those attributes reflect in my designs,” says the actor who was recently seen playing Shunya in Yash Raj Films’ TV show

Sikander, who prefers to use flowy, feminine and elegant fabrics in her outfits, cites the lack of affordable and good clothes as the reason behind creating her own line. “Only leftover garments from the big fashion brands are supplied to our country. We do have many fabulous Indian designers around, but my line is affordable and exclusive,” she says.

Asked if there was a specific reason why she branched out to fashion, she says, “I had desired to launch my own label for a long time, but I was always busy with shoots. Acting is my first love and fashion designing is an extension of Shama Sikander,” she asserts.
