Epitome of grace and beauty, Sharmila Tagore, walked the ramp for designer duo Ashima-Leena on the third day of Delhi Couture Week. Sharmila was dressed in a beige and dull gold ghagra with red-green dupatta.
"It’s a lovely outfit and I’m very happy wearing it. I didn’t trip and fall, so it was a lot of fun. I love the colours and design. Usually traditional clothes are very heavy but these are light and comfortable. The way they have combined colours is beautiful. I was initially skeptical about wearing ghagra as I’m a sari person. But they convinced me. Our tradition is full of treasures of design and Ashima-Leena has taken the best out of it. Their clothes have the feel good factor with comfort level," told Sharmila.
"She is the essence of our designs and we can't think of any other person who could carry the same grace as her," said Leena.
The show titled ‘Adaa’ started with a kathak dance setting the mood for vintage Indian collection. The collection comprised of ghagras, lehengas, saris and suits.
Thin silk and brocades were mainly used and silhouettes were layered. Fusion of garments was interesting like drapes over churidars and peshwaz over ghagras.
Colour palette consisted of pink, golden, peach, green, blue, mauve, orange and red.
Skin show was minimal. Lots of accessories were used like earrings, neckpieces, rings and maang-tikas.
Both Indian and international models walked the ramp.
