Model Viveka Babajee’s suicide has left the fashion fraternity shaken. A former Miss Mauritius, Viveka, 37, was found hanging from the ceiling of her Mumbai apartment on Friday evening. Reports suggest she was depressed after breaking up with her boyfriend, and the police have also recovered a suicide note from the house.
But Viveka’s friends and acquaintances can’t believe the reports. Most choke up as they give their first reaction. A teary-eyed former model Ramneek Pantal says, "The news of Viveka’s demise is horrifying. She just wished me on my birthday. We were in touch with each other everyday. She was a true friend… she didn’t deserve this. I can’t get over it."
Former model Mehar Bhasin says, “She was a go-getter. Though an emotional person, but not to the extent to commit suicide. I got close to her when we did a show in Dubai years ago. Yes, she had boyfriend issues, but she wasn’t the sort to let go. There is something fishy about her death.” Model Dipannita Sharma says. “We knew that Viveka was upset for some time, but had no idea that she could take such a drastic step. We, her friends, should have been with her more.”
Actor Mukul Dev feels, “Viveka was a diva… it is strange all this while she did not get her due and now her catastrophe is making the headlines.” Celebs also express their shock online. Actor Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “Heard about Viveka Babaji’s suicide! I’m in shock! I remember doing shows with her n each time I saw her..she took my breath away. RIP Viveka!!” Actress Mugdha Godse’s Twitter post read: “Pray for my friend’s soul viveka... im devastated.”
