Seems like Bollywood fashionistas can’t get enough of doing superwoman chic. From floor-skimming capes to short capelets, we recently spotted a bevvy of beauties championing caped gowns.

To define them first, capes are seamless extension to an outfit and are of varied lengths. Designers says the trend is big this season. "Exaggerated silhouettes are in vogue. Capes make for avant-garde fashion," says designer Samant Chauhan. But owing to their dramatic make, capes can be tricky to pull off. "It depends on the fabric you choose and your body type. While a diaphanous material works for some, a bulky fabric can also flatten the look," says designer Nachiket Barve.

Nevertheless, there are myriad ways to style the cape, from embellishments and colour blocking to print play. "The key factor is proportion. If that’s messed up, you’ll look like a cross between Red Riding Hood and a Star Wars character," adds Barve.
