Designer Arjun Khanna has some good news for team India’s female cricket fans. Those super-toned painted bodies staring at you from billboards of a beverage ad aren't tricks of photoshop. "The body paint may have been done on photoshop, but their bodies are real. In fact, the guy whose body really caught my eye was Sreesanth. He’s in great shape," says the designer.
Having created new formal suits for the Indian cricket team, which they wore at the World Cup opening ceremony, Khanna’s impressed with the boys’ knowledge of fashion. "I went in expecting a team of rugged boys who wouldn’t really care about style. And some guys like Yusuf Pathan were just too focused on cricket to care. But Yuvraj (Singh) and Sachin (Tendulkar) were very particular. In fact, Sachin put in a recommendation for me to the BCCI."
Another cricketer whose style has gotten Khanna’s stamp of approval is Mahendra Singh Dhoni. "I actually had a long chat with him about the fit and fabric. He was very aware of what he wanted," says Khanna.
So which cricketer is likely to snag showstopper status at Khanna’s next show? "All of them. I’d want the entire cricket team to walk the ramp," grins Khanna.
