Sridevi gave herself a fashionable birthday gift in the city — she walked the ramp on Sunday, the closing day of the PCJ Delhi Couture Week. The actor, who turned 49 on Monday, walked confidently alongside designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, and filmmaker Gauri Shinde, who has directed her in her comeback film, English Vinglish. Sridevi looked elegant in an understated yet grand white sari created by Sabyasachi, as her filmmaker husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Jhanvi cheered on from the first row.
All eyes were on the trio as they entered the elaborate set, which the designer said was reminiscent of hunting lodges in the hills, and had an old-world charm of his store in Mumbai’s Colaba area.
“His designs are very intricate and lovely. I feel honoured to have got the chance to wear Sabyasachi’s designs,” said Sridevi, who also adorns Mukherjee’s designs in Shinde’s film, which will hit theatres on October 5. While the actor’s trademark soft voice was drowned by frenzied crowds, Sabyasachi seemed excited and gushed on about the actor. “I have always been a huge fan of Sridevi. My sister and I bunked school to watch her movies. I hounded Gauri when I got to know that she had cast Sridevi in her film. I just could not miss the opportunity to design for her.”
