Healthy tresses can add to your glam factor. For shiny hair, proper care is mandatory. As winter sets in, strong cold winds and dry weather lead to a lot of hair problems in both men and women. Since this is also the festivity season, a lot of parties are a must. Spa and wellness expert Tracey Poole tells you how you can look your best with the help of natural remedies.
Oily scalp but dry at the ends
This is a common condition, especially for people with long hair. Scalp produces oil naturally and it is distributed all over hair to nourish it. The ends usually get damaged due to too little oil reaching them or too much. In order to balance it, one must use very little shampoo while washing and only add conditioner to the ends from the mid way of the hair shaft. Blending a small teaspoon of lime or lemon juice in the shampoo wash also helps.
Frizzy hair occurs when your hair is lacking moisture and during the winter months it is exposed to the dry harsh elements, pollutants and artificial heating. One needs to use a hydrating shampoo, which does not contain the foaming sulphate ingredients, and then apply a leave-in conditioner so that your hair settles down.
The best way to avoid them is to get your hair trimmed every two months. Contrary to popular belief, this actually helps your hair grow faster and keep it healthy. Another tip is to ensure to be gentle with hair when it is wet. The proper way to dry wet hair is to pat it with a dry towel, instead of rubbing it harshly then comb the hair with a wide toothed comb gently.
Extreme dry hair
Begin by shampooing the hair less often as shampoos tend to take away natural moisture. Use thick conditioners and leave it on for at least three to four minutes. The best thing to do is to regularly oil your hair and leave the oil overnight. Almond and coconut oils work well. You can also apply coconut milk to the scalp using a small fan brush. After application cover your head with a towel and leave it undisturbed for about 20 minutes. Remove the towel and rinse your hair with cold water.
Oily and greasy hair
Indoor and artificial heating can cause havoc for those with oily hair. The best remedy for greasy hair is to use aloe vera gel. For this, take a portion of your usual shampoo and add a teaspoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of fresh aloe vera gel. Mix this well and shampoo with it every day.
