In an effort to create awareness about global warming, young designer duo Parvesh and Jai have innovated with plastic and polythene bags as embellishments for their "Ethical" collection to be showcased at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) here Oct 15-19.
"We talk a lot about global warming, but how many of us are actually doing something about it? This collection is a small effort to make people pay heed to the growing threat.," Parvesh told IANS at a preview of the spring/summer collection here Saturday.
The duo is showcasing two lines at WIFW - "Ethical" and "Resort wear".
The theme for the first is "Lets take things in our hands" while the other is meant for women who are carefree and not at all bothered about the world.
"Resort wear is for women who do not care about the world and are in love with themselves. They know what they want to wear and do not follow any fashion trends," Jai explained.
The duo will also be displaying the "Ethical" collection at the Ethical fashion Week at Paris Oct 9-12.
The designer duos' journey in the fashion industry started around five years ago with their labels 'Raasleela" and "Blue Coral" in 2003 and 2005 respectively but it's only this year that they are debuting at the fashion week
"We started off with couture and than moved on to resort wear. At that time, there were not many takers in India for resort wear so we were showcasing our collection internationally," Jai said.
"At that time, India was not ready for such things and market was very niche. But with the changing lifestyles of people and thanks to super rich who love to holiday, resort wear has become very popular in India too.
"Our clients pushed us to show our resort wear on the ramp. They believe in our work, which is very contemporary and chic," Jai said.
For their resort wear collection, the designers have been inspired by nature and have created ensembles for the perfect beach holiday.
"The motto of our resort collection is that life is a holiday, so enjoy it," Jai said.
