The WillKat royal wedding became a fashion nightmare for the three ladies who ended up attending the ceremony in London wearing the same dress. Prince William’s one-time love interest, Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, a common friend of Kate Middleton and Prince William, Meghan Gunderman, and another guest at the royal wedding chose British designer Matthew Williamson’s leopard-print linen swing coat with beaded sleeves for the ceremony. UK based tabloid Daily Mail, reported the royal fashion face off. Needless to say that at such a prestigious and much awaited event, it was embarrassing for the ladies to see mirror images walking next to them.

“Sometimes there is a particular concept that appeals to all, in this case the leopard prints. It can happen with anyone,” says designer Anjalee Kapoor. What happens is everybody follows the current trend and certain prints get picked up quickly. Another reason could be the hype created by some designers related to the prints, colours and embellishments.

“Such goof ups happen when there is a hype created about a particular trend and everybody wants to wear the same. Don’t get overpowered by fashion gurus and forecasters and lose sight of what suits you best. The pressure of wearing the ‘it’ outfit probably got these three ladies into an embarrassing moment,” says designer Pam Mehta.

Thankfully the hats were different. That’s why it’s a must to accessorise your look. Stylist Vikram Seth says, “You spend a lot of time and money in buying a dress for a big event but it can be really upsetting to see someone walking in the same outfit. The trick is to always accessorise your clothes cleverly so that the focus shifts on other things.”
