One statement piece is all an ensemble needs to look complete. These ladies show you how to achieve it in various ways
Make-up, jewellery, shoes, belts and bags — many that are jazzy and over-the-top in terms of colour, structure or embellishment — are flying off the shelves. And that brings us to a faux pas that most are susceptible to — wearing too much at the same time.
Take some cues from recent celebrity appearances to decide how you’d like to make a statement at the next party you attend.
How to get it
The belt may have weighed a hefty 8 kg, but at least it saved Kareena Kapoor the trouble of wearing jewellery or carrying a glittery clutch to jazz up her
Vidya Balan’s been accused of sticking to saris and not changing it up at all, so she found a way to wear what she loves most, yet keep things interesting with a chunky Amrapali necklace. All Sonam Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez needed to elevate their single-tone dresses were quirky earrings. While the former went the Princess Leia way, the Sri Lankan beauty picked a bright, quirky pair.
Make-up can be your statement too. Sonal Chauhan stuck to just red lipstick to light up her dull dress. If there was any jewellery with that bright shade, we’d be cringing.
Manasi Scott knew better than to wear a busy dress, or worse, accessorise it. Those spiked booties won’t share the limelight with anything.
5. Bold outfits
Print-on-print is a bold statement in itself, and Bandana Tewari played it right. No one’s even looking at accessories with an ensemble like this.
How not to do it
Here’s an example of overkill. Krishika Lulla’s dress is sparkling by itself. She needed only one out of the belt, necklace and clutch — preferably in contrasting muted, matte shades — to balance her look. We’d recommend taking off either the belt or the necklace and going with an entirely different clutch that doesn’t clash with the dress.
