Bright dresses and colour blocking pep up one’s look instantly, but if you’re fed up of sporting mixed hues all the time, the classic black and white dress should be your next pick. It will make you stand out from the rest with its simplistic yet chic look. Fashion designer Sanchita says, “It is a great way to achieve a feminine and elegant look.”
This classic style has seen a recent resurgence with Hollywood starlets such as Cameron Diaz, Diane Kruger and Bollywood Divas such as Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu, among others, sporting the monochrome dress with élan.
The two colours have hijacked the runways too, with prominent presence in the shows of Christian Dior and Giambattista Valli at the Paris Haute Couture Week 2012 and in Spring/ Summer collection of international designers such as Stella McCartney, Etro, Alice and Olivia, Diane Von Fursternberg and many more.
“A black and white dress works well for both Autumn and Spring seasons, given the fabric chosen is according to the weather,” says fashion designer Preeti Chandra.
Create your look carefully and accessorise it right. Go for prints such as polka dots, stripes, animal and geometrical prints apart from blocks of black and white. “For a strong monochromatic look accessorise with the shades of same colour. For example, team up a cream and black dress with a cream jacket, and black wedges to sport a dressy style,” suggests Sanchita.
