Seventeen-year-old American actor Dakota Fanning on the February cover of Cosmopolitan, US, has yet again given steam to the old debate of vanity-gone-young. The Twilight Saga actor looks much older on the cover, with sexually explicit headlines such as ‘His Best Sex Ever’ and ‘Too Naughty To Say Here: But You Have to Try This Sex Trick!’
Though readers of the glossy have taken to Twitter to express their outrage on the cover, the magazine stands by its choice. A spokesperson for Cosmo, told Fox News, "Dakota is a mature, fearless young woman and we are proud to honour her as our Fun Fearless Female of the year."
Meanwhile, Indian fashion experts don’t find Fanning’s appearance provocative, but are against using an under age model for their covers. Kabeer Sharma, editor, FHM says, "The three cover-lines that allude to sex, which together with the picture of a 17-year-old might offend sensibilities."
Ami Patel, fashion director, L’Officiel magazine says, "One has to draw a fine line. All our models are 20 years and above." Nonita Kalra, editor-in-chief, Elle, says, "We always keep in mind what is tasteful and appropriate to Indian sensibilities."
