long way in elevating in a casual day look.
Toni & Guy and Design Pulse by Matrix share tips on getting some of the hottest styles at home, with only a comb and gel.
One of the perennial classics — this was first made famous by Elvis Presley, who rocked the hell out of this style and is still the best ambassador for it. Later, the likes of Johnny Cash, James Dean, and more recently, James Franco picked up on it and gave it their own spin.
The style is easy to experiment with, though the basic rule remains — longer at the front, swept off the forehead and towards the sides, with a shorter back. Apply some gel, brush the sides backwards, comb the front straight and flip it towards the back of your head to create a puff. Using a heavier gel will make it last even longer.
The bed hair
Another hairstyle that’s been around for a while. Many claim that the messy, just-out-of-bed look is a favourite with women. The best ambassador for this look is Robert Pattinson, who won most of his fans after getting rid of his boy-next-door look.
This one is a bit of a creative process. Prime the hair with some wax for stronger structure. Run your hands through your hair to adjust your strands the way you’d like them. The possibilities are endless.
The side parting
This style was popular in the ’40s courtesy yesteryear heartthrob Cary Grant. Now, it’s back in fashion with Ryan Gosling and Ed Westwick sporting it. It’s a very easy, polished style that looks great on corporate guys.
This is the easiest look to achieve. Apply a good, long-lasting gel that’ll stay through the day and simply brush your hair to the side you prefer.
Leonardo Di Caprio will sport this hairstyle in the upcoming film, The Great Gatsby. Pick up on the trend early with hair cut longer on top and shorter on the sides. That way, it’s easier to mould.
The look is worn slicked back and smooth, and looks modern yet reminiscent of a bygone era. Just create a side parting, apply some soft gel and comb to create waves as per your preference.
