An interesting phenomenon took place last evening at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Towards the end of fashion designer James Ferreira’s show, the models walked out for the final time in synchronised choreography but then a second later ‘Sheila’ did a little jig on the ramp! An interesting phenomenon took place last evening at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Towards the end of fashion designer James Ferreira’s show, the models walked out for the final time in synchronised choreography, stood on the runway, clapped while the designer took a bow and obviously the audience, who lack common courtesy to keep sitting till the show ends, started scampering for the exit. Nothing unusual about that! But there is. A second later

No it wasn’t Katrina Kaif who danced to Sheila; it was a man who outdid Kat with his sensuous moves. It was none other than James Ferreira! Dressed in denim hot pants, James walked out to take his final bow but unlike other designers, did not make a fleeting appearance which you are sure to miss if you happen to sneeze at that moment.

Cheered on by his ramp models, who walked like they were on a mission yesterday, James not once but twice danced to Sheila complete with belly dancing and Bollywood jhatkas. The scuttling audience froze in their spots and thanked the lord for the little patience they had to wait till the end of the show.

A Mumbai based designer, Ferreira, who is showcasing at WLIFW for the first time, had it going for him from the word go.

Taking inspiration from the story of the Tortoise and the Hare, the entire collection unfolded like a story. Three models took center-stage and the drama began. With the story running in the background and theatrics on stage, the show got everyone hooked on. Obviously, the tortoise won.

On a serious note, the show was all about responsible fashion. The collection comprised of tortoise shells and fur prints. This time Ferreira added some structure to his signature drapes. More pleating and tucking was seen on the ramp. Hues of moss green, teal blue, golden yellow, burnt sienna were used for his AW2011-12 collection.

"When I design my clothes I always think of a saree and design accordingly. It has a level of comfort to it," Ferreira said.

Pink stockings were central to his collection worn with long overcoats, structured yet flowy dresses, backless tops and hot pants.
