Highlight Story

Staid white pants sprung back in the summer, and now in the monsoons the 'it' garment, as channelled by fashionistas, is a white pencil skirt.

Recently, actor Frieda Pinto was spotted in a pencil style white skirt paired with a halter top at a Salvatore Ferragamo event. Actor Eva Longoria was also seen flaunting a thigh high white skirt with a blue off-shoulder top. According to fashion experts though a white skirt has always being a fashion classic, it hasn't got its due, like a little black dress or blue jeans.

"Black is cliché. But, white is refreshing and fun to wear. White skirts with patch work, and lace, satin or zari borders look great," says designer Anupama Dayal. Size wise A white skirt, if worn rightly, can be flattering for almost all body types. The ones on the heavier side, can play with the right proportions on top. Don't pair the skirt with something very fitted - a loose top with a tee will look nice.

"For those who have a petite body frame, a transparent shirt in voile, chiffon or georgette looks sexy with a white skirt. For an evening party, add a scarf, a beige handbag and grey shoes," adds Dayal. For a casual outing, a white skirt is a nice pick for the day. "A white skirt teamed with a check print top is an interesting pairing," says designer Joy Mitra.

Accessory alert

Designer Anjalee Kapoor says, "For the day time, you can tie up your hair in a pony tail. For the night event, you can curl up the hair. You can give a very formal look by wearing stilettoes and accessorise it with long earrings in the night time, and a neckpiece during the day time. During the night, you can also wear a chunky handcuff."
